Summer is upon us, and so are thoughts of Summer Reading! There is no need to experience an academic slump during the summer just because school is out. This is the perfect time to stretch yourself by reading by reading new and exciting books! This commitment will help to maintain reading fluency, build vocabulary, and enhance comprehension. The research is clear that students who read during the summer are much more prepared to meet the demands in all of their courses throughout the year.
Incoming Freshmen- This summer, incoming Pre-AP 9th graders MUST read at least two books. The theme this year is "Coming of Age" -- how perfect for the beginning of your high school career! Select something that interests you and be sure to have it read before you come to the first day of school. Listed below you will find the criteria for each of your required books. *A Special Note to Parents: These books were chosen to make reading more fun and relevant for students, but it is important for you to be involved in their selection process to ensure that students choose a book of appropriate age/content level. I encourage you to read these books along with your student and to discuss their content together in order to help them enjoy reading even more. |
